FABER CASTELL - OSMIA FOUNTAIN PENS

- ABSTRACT -
For the history and relationship of Osmia and Faber Castell, I strongly recommend the post I published in the past.

Being the world's first pencil company, Faber Castell has a very longstanding history in terms of pencils, but the company made relatively late début in the fountain pen market.
Even in 19th century, Faber Castell made several dip pens with various designs.
Dip pen with mother of pearl was a very classic one in that era, and you can see one such example in the link below.

Since when exactly Faber Castell has started to make fountain pens is a tough question.
However, I have one of the earliest fountain pen of A.W. FABER (5), expected to be made in 1910s to 20s.

It is widely known A.W. FABER made its own fountain pens, Castell which are also in the link below, in 1936.
Since 1935, Faber company started to acquire Osmia, so most of its lineup overlap with that of Osmia.

Faber Castell had made numerous fountain pens with various designs.
Some important pens need to be mentioned though.
The silver color fountain pen (6) is very special in the sense that it is the first and the only lever filler fountain pen made by Faber Castell - Osmia.
113E fountain pen (7) is also notable since some people claim that the top of the cap is made of amber jewel, even though I don't know its authenticity.
448 fountain pen (11) is the biggest fountain pen made by Faber Castell - Osmia.
It was originally made bigger intentionally to counter to the Montblanc 149 fountain pen.
74D fountain pen (9) with guilloche pattern is another nice one since it is the oldest predecessor of modern GvFC's guilloche fountain pens!
Progress rolled gold (27) and Progress demonstrator fountain pen (33) are also magnificent.
Finally, 553D fountain pen is the only two-breather hole nib fountain pen of Faber Castell as far as I know.

Beyond the name of Osmia, there are mamy interesting fountain pens.
What is in (31) is believed to be made as a cooperation of Faber Castell and Johann Faber.
Gentleman fountain pens need no words - they are so famous already.
FH series in (40) and (41) were the fountain pen counterpart of the famous DS45 and DS75 mechanical pencils.
5003 fountain pen can be treated as the earliest GvFC fountain pen and the series goes from 5000 to 5006.
