A.W. FABER MOTHER OF PEARL DIP PEN

Dip pen, the earlier generation pen of fountain pen, has such name since one needs to dip the nib inside the ink to write.
Dip pens were traditionally made of natural materials like feathers and reeds, but as the technology gets developed, metal nibs were manufactured.
Dip pens no longer used well because of their inconvenience, and only some people seek for them for calligraphy and artistic reasons.

A.W. FABER also made some dip pens before they dived into the fountain pen market.
It is expected A.W. FABER made this dip pen in the late 19th century.
It is contained in the black wooden case.

There is another word, but I can't read what it means.
The case two hooks.

The appearance of the pen.
The body is made of white color mother of pearl, and the nib and grip parts are gold colored metal.

I personally love products with mother of pearl, so it's a shame that Faber Castell doesn't make products with mother of pearl.
Although there are POTY 2016 with maki-e style and basic model with pearls, these dip pens are the only mother of pearl pens Faber Castell has tried as far as I know.

Maki-e style is quite widely known thanks to some Japanese fountain pens.
Korea also has its own traditional style called Najeonchilgi, which has been succdeded for around 2000 years by some artisans.
I hope Graf von Faber Castell to make a POTY with this historical and magnificent style.
Maybe I can have a chance to introduce more about this style later.

A.W. FABER New York No.2.
I have another mechanical pencil that was made in A.W. FABER's American plant.
The plant was near New York, so I guess both of them were made in the same place.

The interesting point is that there is a drawing engraved in the grip.
This gold color grip part is adorned with a bird and some flowers, with A.W. FABER's name.

The body is made of mother of pearl.

If you haven't seen this kind of pen before, you might think that this style is rare and unique.
As a matter of fact, however, this kind of pen was very common in 19th century.
If you search about this, you will find there are many vintage dip pens with similar design.

Hence, it's not that this one has a unique design.
Still, even they have the similar designs, I like A.W. FABER's pens.
