A.W. FABER POCKET PENCIL WITH REFILLS
A.W. FABER 포켓펜슬 세트
The connection of A.W. FABER to French market was special.
Lothar von Faber studied abroad in Paris at his early age and based on what he learned there, he transformed A.W. FABER into being stylish so that his pens could even captivate the picky aesthetic tastes of Parisian.
A.W. FABER also opened a branch in Paris in 1855, but I can't answer if you ask me which specific pens were made in France.
I can at least tell you some mini mechanical pencils and pocket pencils were made in France.
Here is one such example.
Even though I'm saying this is one of a kind, I can't guarantee anything since this precise one has no indicated origin.
I just wanted to deliver that A.W. FABER made such pocket pencils or pencil extenders in France.
"A.W. FABER, Factory founded in 1761" written in French.
You can at least be assured of this was sold in the French market.
I didn't take the photo of the exterior of the case, since there was nothing interesting.
There are 6 pencils in total.
Everyone of them has dark brown color and it is written A.W. FABER No.3.
According to A.W. FABER's grade system, this corresponds to the HB pencil.
The pencils are laid on the soft fur bed.
Let's briefly compare some flat pocket pencils of A.W. FABER.
They all might be looking similar at first sight, but every one of them is distinguishable.
I'm sorry the Castell flat pencil is in bad condition.
I'll soon bring a new pencil, so please wait for a moment.
So, let's focus on the left two pencils for the time being.
They have nearly the same length, while the left one is much more pointed.
It was sharpend in the convex shape, the right one was sharpend in the plain way on the other hand.
The letters on the pencils are also different.
All three pencils are flat and oval shaped with circular lead.
There existed oval but not flat pocket pencils too.
I mean, a shape like a rugby ball.
I'm not sure whether this pocket pencil holder came from the same era and they were really a pair.
Anyway, these pocket pencils were used together with this sort of holders.
The similar example was here, which was for the Castell pocket pencils.
This model must be a long-haul since one needed to carve the flower patterns.
This flower pattern reminds me of this flower pattern mechanical pencil and this bouquet pencil.
It seems A.W. FABER employeed flower patterns in many cases in 1800s.
A.W. FABER, ARGENTAN.
The meaning of the word "argentan" is explained in this post.
As we have also seen in this "silverine" pencil extender, some high-class models of pencil extender or pocket pencils were made of gold or silver.
However, they usually containes less portion of them like 835 silver, and 7k or 10k gold.
Four flowers are blooming, while two flowers are not yet.
I believe the rusts will be removed with a silver cleaner, although I'd rather keep it intact.
