FABER CASTELL FOUNTAIN PENS IN 1980S - CASTELL 500 & UNKNOWN
파버카스텔 80년대 만년필들
Keeping going from the last post, here are two Faber Castell's fountain pens which are believed to be sold in the 1980s or earlier.
As always, I haven't found any explicit evidence to pinpoint their ages, so please don't take the word "80s" seriously.
The first fountain pen has a metallic cap and a plastic barrel as the one in the below.
I expect this fountain pen was a cheap model or even could be a school fountain pen.
This way of the logo being written is an older style.
According to the style, this one doesn't have the symbol of two jousting knights.
The rubber grip with a hand grenade looking pattern.
The barrel with a very strong blue color has a window to check the ink remain.
The nib is a simple one only with the letter 'M' to indicate its size.
The next one is Castell 500 model, which is relatively well-known.
This model also had the name Goldfaber 500, although its historical connection to Goldfaber is not clear yet.
Goldfaber, as we all know, was a series first made by Johann Faber and then absorbed to Faber Castell.
If Johann Faber had released a fountain pen under the name Goldfaber, things would have been clearer, but it seems Goldfaber series doesn't have a fountain pen.
Another possible explanation might come from Silberfaber.
As you can see in the post, the Silberfaber(=silverfaber) had another name Castell 81 as this one.
So I could also treat this Goldfaber fountain pen as an independent entity from the Goldfaber series we all know.
Still, it's highly curious that it doesn't have a gold nib or gold color anywhere.
It is written Castell 500 on the clip.
There's another version with "Goldfaber 500" on the clip.
Two fountain pens are totally identical in my opinion.
By the way, I also assume this Castell 500 belongs to the same category with Castell 518 fountain pen.
They have similar lookings in several ways.
Here's the name of A.W. FABER-CASTELL.
Because of this name, I guess this one could have been made earlier than 80s.
The famous 5000 lines were made in 1971, so these 500 and 518 models might have been made at the same era.
The same rubber grip as 518 and 5003 models.
The nib has the same looking as well, except for the material.
518 and 500x models boast 18K gold nibs, this one has a stainless steel nib on the contrary.
What does the letter "C" on the nib stand for?
Natural guess would be "Castell."
Another feature is this one also has windows to check the ink level.
By the way, this model also has red and green color versions other than this blue one.
