Mitsubishi pencil corporation is the leading company in terms of mechanical pencils.
It was founded in 1887 as a pencil company.
Its another name Uni was introduced to avoid confusion with homonymous company.
Since another Mitsubishi had the same name and the logo, Mitsubishi pencil once had to rely on the new name Uni.
Mitsubishi has presented revolutionary mechanical pencils like alpha gels and kuru togas for mechanical pencil, and signo and jetstream for ballpoint pens.
As their popularities are skyrocketing, many famous collaborations were made for these pens.
These kuru toga mechanical pencils are examples of collaborations with Disney and Rilakkuma.
There are so many variations for kuru toga models.
The core of kuru toga is the function that automatically rotates the lead so that one can always use the sharp lead.
The name kuru toga is the compound of kuru, meaning rotaing and toga, meaning sharp tip in Japanese.
The mechanism uses note-taking pressure to rotate the lead.
These are another best seller of Uni, alpha gel series.
Alpha gel is a buffer material developed by the Japanese company named Taica.
This material is widely used in sports shoes and in industries, and Uni utilized this to provide soft grip.
Even though the father of silicon grip was Pilot's Dr.grip, Uni's alpha gel is much more popular in Korea since it seized the Korean market fast.
Alpha gel mechanical pencil has several versions - basic, slim, kuru toga, shaker, and so on.
The basic model was discontinued because of the huge success of shaker model.
Nevertheless I prefer the basic model since this version has the softest grip.
As the name tells, shaker models provide shaking mechanism to eject the lead.
And kuru toga version is the fusion of two Uni's flagships.
I don't prefer slim versions since it doesn't have that soft grip as volume of alpha gel decreased.

This is Shift mechanical pencil.
One unique feature of this mechanical pencil is its way to protect the lead sleeve.
The function is also described on the package and the sticker on the mechanical pencil.
As one turns the grip part, holding the barrel, it rotates and one can push the barrel to put the lead sleeve inside the cone.
If one turns the grip backwards, it becomes hold mode which doesn't protect the lead sleeve, appropriate for writing.
