Are you interested in those who ran Faber Castell company?
Faber Castell has been managed as a family-run business.
Founded by Kaspar Faber in 1761, the company is now owned by the 9th generation, Charles Alexander Graf von Faber-Castell.
Namely, there has been nine CEOs in the history of Faber Castell.

Count Roland von Faber-Castell, managed 7th generation of Faber Castell for fifty years.
He merged Johann Faber and acquired Osmia as we have talked many times in this blog.

Roland Faber-Castell enjoyed riding horses since his youth.
His best friend was the Lipizzaner Stallion "Kanonier," dedicated from a circus director.

I suppose this is the underlying reason in the birth of the POTY 2009 Lipizzaner edition.
Faber Castell didn't announced it explicitly, but I believe this special limited edition had some meaning to honor him.
Only seven pieces were made for this special limited edition, knitting the horsehair of lipizzaner.

Anton Wolfgang "Toni" Graf von Faber-Castell took over Faber Castell after the death of Roland Faber-Castell, leading the 8th generation.
He launced the prestigious product lines under the name Graf von Faber Castell that we all know for now.

What he's holding is the earlier pencils of Graf von Faber Castell, which are no longer available.
He succeeded in premiumization of the brand, making Graf von Faber Castell, and making the monumental POTY series.
By the way, I also have a pencil that congratulates the marriage of "Toni."

In 2001, he also released the most expensive pencil in the world to celebrate 240th anniversary, entering the Guinness book of World Records.

To honor him, I tried the same posture with the same pencils.
As a fanatic who loves Faber Castell pens, he was a great man to me.
I've immensely loved Faber Castell pens made while he was in charge of the company, and the way he achieved environmental sustainability.
He earned the Eco Manager of the Year in 2008 from WWF for his eco-friendly management.
