Faber Castell doesn't make high-end mechanical pencils (except for the Graf von Faber Castell mechanical pencils) and lost much power in the mechanical pencil world in these days, but the company was once an epoch-making company that led the society of mechanical pencils.
If you are the mechanical pencil collector, you can't be unaware of the masterpieces with the names TK-matic and Alpha-matic.

The instruction manual explains every detail regarding the mechanical pencil.
It's quite informative so I recommend you to read this carefully in prior of using it.
It also comes with a sticker to indicate the lead grade.

There were two colors available for TK-matic 9725 model.
The reason I chose he silver color will be clear at the last part of the post.

As it advertised, Faber Castell was the pioneer that invented the "automatic" mechanical pencil.
The earlist model with this function was DS75 mechanical pencil, and later TK-matic adopted the same mechanism as a drafting mechanical pencil.

It also explains it is the world's first "nonstop" fine-line lead holder.
TK-matic plastic version was around ¥4500, while the full metal version (9725L) amounted to ¥5500-6000.
As mechanical pencils, those belonged to the really expensive models!

I have the all-metal version.
It is silver color everywhere, except for the end point of the push button.
Slim cylindrical shape with shining silver color is enough to be luxurious.

Faber Castell's wappen on the clip.
This wappen is now used as a trade mark of Graf von Faber Castell.
Vertical stripe patterns on the clip adds savor to the design.

I guess here is where the sticker needs to be attached.
Otherwise, I can't imagine where the sticker should be located.

The lead sleeve is thin and long, which is more adequate for the drafting compared to DS75 model.
The grip has the identical design to the Pentel's Graph 500 mechanical pencil.
Which one is the originator?
The answer is TK-matic, which was released in 1970s.
Pentel's Graph 500 was first made in 1981 on the other hand.

Afterwards, Korean brand Micro was motivated from Graph 500 to make grips of Jedo 2000 and Jedo 3000.
In essence, Micro was inspired by the far away German brand Faber Castell not knowingly.
Isn't it a funny story?

The long-awaited encounter of Silver TK-matic L and gold Alpha-matic 230th anniversary edition!
Gold and silver always make a perfect pair.

As you can see, TK-matic and alpha-matic have nearly identical designs.
Two distinctions I can notice are the lead sleeve and the push button.
TK-matics were the ancestor of alpha-matics, and alpha-matics are heavier and much more expensive.
No questions asked those two lines influenced the era of mechanical pencils from 70s to 80s.
