PENTEL LEADS

Needless to say, Pentels mechanical pencils are highly popular.
The interesting thing is Pentel's machanical pencil leads are also popular.
In addition, the discontinued leads and vintage leads are more popular.

The above is one of them
It is hi-polymer 120 lead. The origin of the name is to promote that the leads can withstand even 120g of power.
It looks like a cigarette pack, and in fact the real concept is that.
There are 5 cigarette shaped lead cases inside, and each cigarette has leads again.

It explains that this can endure 120% power compared to hi-polymer 100.
The older type exists, and there are 12 cigarettes inside.

PENTEL LEADS

These are hi-polymer 100 leads.
As you might guess, this can withstand upto 100g power.
Some have JIS mark, while others don't have that.

PENTEL LEADS

These are yosi and hi-polymer for professional.
Yosi might refer to 良し, meaning good in Japanese.
Hi-polymer for professional is famous for its quality.
It's original price is ¥300-400, which is quite high price for the lead.
It promotes that they are extra strong.

PENTEL LEADS

These are hi-polymer super and unknown name leads.
The black case has no name on it.
They have JIS mark, and they used m/m instead of mm.
Pentel used this notation for older pens like this.
I can only guess they are old leads.

Furthermore, one has the letter 'Kygng-in' at the bottom.
I know that there were some cases Pentel's leads were made in other countries.
For example, some leads have made in France mark.
There also were some cases that importers imported only the leads and made their own cases because it was finacially cheaper.
So I guess Kygng-in is the company that made only the case, with Pentel's leads.
Truth is still in a veil though.

PENTEL LEADS

Several rhombic shaped leads.
These hi-polymers are highly famous to have so many variations.
The top left leads are hi-polymer supers and some have JIS mark.
The bottom left leads have rather plain appearance.
The bottom right leads seem to be modern.

PENTEL LEADS

The interesting thing is here.
They both are 0.2mm leads, but the below one must be quite old.

PENTEL LEADS

PENTEL is written in capital letter with unique font, and the notation is m/m instead of mm.
Both features can be found in the earliest model of PMG, so I wonder this came from the similar age.
The Japanese word is ぺんてる, Japanese name of Pentel.

PENTEL LEADS

These are leads with rose paintings.
They again use the notation m/m so I also guess they are quite old.
Interestingly, one has 'Kygng-in' name again, while the other has Pentel name on the same place.

PENTEL LEADS

Their backsides have the same letters.
Besides, Pentel lead has hexagonal shape mark, while Kygng-in has some circular mark.
Even though both has the same Pentel sticker, what made these differences?
What on Earth is Kygng-in?

PENTEL LEADS

The last one is this gold color case.

ERSATZMINEN (German)
REFILLLEADS (English)
MINES DE REMPLACEMENT (French)

It seems that this case is for Western countries.
This one again uses m/m, not mm.

PENTEL LEADS

The explanation of Pentel's hi-polymer in English.
The explanation is much kinder than "extra strong" of hi-polymer for professional. :)

PENTEL LEADS

12 diamond shaped leads are inside.
This gold case also looks like the cigarette pack, so it would have been fun if there were cigarette shaped leads inside.
I personally like this one since I love gold colors.
