NAJEONCHILGI PEN CASE - GIWA HOUSE

Two Korean traditional arts are intereinded in this post.
One is the Najeonchilgi (lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl).
I previously talked shortly about this when I posted A.W. FABER's mother of pearl dip pen.
Its name is quite long, but Najeonchilgi is simply a Korean traditional art using the shell of abalones and lacquering.
Its history in Korea has been more than thousand years and it is still being succeeded by some artisans.
This pen case is the masterpiece made by one of those artisans who have succeeded this art as a family business.
Another thing to know is Giwa house (tile-roofed house).
Giwa is a traditional roof tile and its history is also more than thousand years.
Giwa houses were exclusive to Korean aristocrats since making Giwas demanded huge money in the past.
This pen case has the typical appearance of the Giwa house, but its whole body is made of Najeonchilgi.
The roof bar has the glossy gold color, and the pistil is expressed with glits.
The flower and leaves are made of the abalone shell.
The abalone shell shows off its rainbow color.
The inside is really magnificent!
All sides are covered with the abalone shell.
The sides are also decorated with mother of pearl flowers.
It seems that the flowers are chrysanthemum, one of the national flower of Korea.
I'd like to show this view again.
It is truly my favorite.
I believe every pen would eager to live in this beautiful house.
