Pilot's S-series is one of Pilot's flagship mechanical pencil line.

It starts from S3, and has finest lines S20 and S30.

S20 mechanical pencil is the best seller among them.

It is still being loved by many people throughout the world.

So, you may wonder why I say this mechanical pencil is discontinued.

This model is not just S20.

It is S20 standard.

It was discontinued more than 10 years ago.

It comes with an instruction manual.

Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese.

It is mainly made of wood and some parts are metal.

In many ways, it simply looks like normal S20 model.

It's hard to find spot two differences.

I'll soon tell you the answers but it would be fun if you find the differences by yourself :)

It has S20 on the ring located at the center of the body.

The model number is HPSN-2SK. (DR for deep red)

Usual S20 mechanical pencils have model name HPS-2SK.

This model has one more letter in the model number.

I guess N stands for standard, but it doesn't start with 'N'.

Here comes the first difference!

Unlike the usual S20 mechanical pencil, it has a simpler puch button.

S20 models' have push buttons with lead grade indicator.

However, this model has a button with simple -0.5- letter.

Eraser and clip. Pilot logo exists on the clip.

Did you find the last difference?

This model doesn't have a lead sleeve!

As you have seen, S20 and S20 standard have few differences.

That might be the reason S20 standard model was discontinued.

Still they share the attractiveness of S20 model.

Its wooden, streamlined body and the location of center of gravity.

When people talk about the shortcoming of S20 model, they all point out the weakness of lead sleeve.

Since this model already has no lead sleeve, S20 standard could be more advanced model in that sense!
