Pentel, the peerless mechanical pencil maker of Japan, has produced countless masterpieces since its foundation.
PMG, Pentel Mechanica Graph, is a 0.3 mm version of PGx series.
(Is there any reason Pentel calls it PMG instead of PG3?)
The case you see is the case of Mechanica, not its original packaging.
It is there since it doesn't have its original packaging, but it's funny that it fits into it well.
Mechanica is the world first 0.3 mm mechanical pencil.
PMG was produced 1 year later Mechanica, and it has experienced several changes.
Although I'm not an expert of Pentel and mechanical pencils, so I might be wrong.
Still, it seems like that the PMG I have is the earliest model.
First thing to note is the name.
Later models have PMG names on it.
This one has no name, and it is simply written 0.3 m/m.
Later models have 0.3 mm, not 0.3 m/m.
This is another distiction.
This tells that this one is an earlier model.
Still, not enough to convince it is the earliest model.
In fact, this clip is the strong evidence of the earliest model.
Later models don't have Pentel's name on the logo.
Earlier models have Pentel's name, but with lower cases.
Only the earliest models have Pentel's name with capital letters!

This lead grade indicator is the origin of its nickname - gold ring.
It's not seen well in the photo since it gets faded because of the touch of time.
Still, this ring has a gold color, so it is sometimes called goldring.
There are also silvering models.
PGx series has plastic rings with diverse colors.
Only this model has gold metal ring.
Modern PMG has a red plastic ring in this place.
It also has a cap to protect its lead sleeve.
Compared to Mechanica, it's very simple way to protect the lead sleeve.
The other parts look like common and familiar PGx series.
It would have been better if other metal parts were also gold colored.

It was very rare in Korea when I first got this.
It was about 15 years ago, and it was believed that there were only two the earliest type goldrings in Korea - believe it or not ;)
Nowadays, it became more common, but still this one has something to me.
