A.W. FABER 1800S DOUBLE-SIDED ERASER FOR PENCIL AND INK PEN
A.W. FABER 연필&잉크 지우개
Here I brought a very old eraser believed to be made in 1800s.
It is a pencil type eraser made of wood.
We can see pencil type erasers easily in these days, I didn't know they had such a long history nevertheless.
In fact, we can find a similar pencil type eraser in the A.W. FABER's catalog of the late 19th century.
Quite a many of them were dual erasers of the pencil eraser and the ink eraser interestingly.
The one on the left must have been the partner for the plaid pattern pencil I introduced earlier!
Even though this one was not listed on the catalog, I'm pretty sure this one must be older than the above erasers on the catalog.
The way "A.W. FABER" is written seems to be very old-fashioned.
The pencil is adorned with some vine-like patterns which can be seen in the Polygrade pencil cases.
Needless to say, there is no balance symbol.
The left side is the eraser for the pencil.
Some additional vine patterns are there, and the letter is written in French.
This eraser must have been made for the French market, where Lothar von Faber studied and appreciated.
It is a white, square eraser.
By the way, this pencil is highly thick.
Don't think its size is as usual as other normal pencils!
The right hand side is the ink eraser.
Again, we see the French words.
Ink eraser is black colored.
Nothing on the other three sides of the pencil.
Now, let's summarize what we learned.
A.W. FABER made diverse both sided erasers for the pencil and the ink even in 1800s, and there were pencil type erasers as well.
Among them, this one seems to be older model and was distributed in the French market.
So when was this made?
I have no idea.
