THE HISTORY OF MICRO

THE HISTORY OF MICRO
This article is for those who never heard of Micro.
When you think of Asian stationery company, you might only know about Japanese companies.
It's true that Japan is a leading country in this field.
Pentel, Zebra, Pilot, Uni, Tombow, and so on.
There are tons of famous Japanese stationery companies.

In the past, South Korea also had an competitive stationery company.
It was the Micro I'm going to talk about.
As some of you have already noticed, the company doesn't exist now.
Micro gave up its business when South Korea suffered from the IMF crisis in 1997.
Its heir the "e-Micro" is still running the business, although the quaility of pens doesn't match to that of Micro.

The competitive point of Micro was the relatively cheap cost considering its quality.
It provided diverse kinds of pens with reasonable price.
This was able since Japanese pens were way too expensive at that moment.
Micro is a company that supplied mechanical pencils, the monopoly of the rich, to most common Korean people.

Was the Micro a good company?
Well, it's hard to say that.
I'll post Micro's products, then you'll notice that many of them are copy of existimg models.
It was possible since Micro was only known to Korean people.
If Micro existed even todays, the company must have paid a tremendous amount of fine.

Is summary, Micro used many existing designs without permissions, and produced cheap pens with competitive price.
This helped to spread mechanical pencils to common people, but it can't be pleaded self-defendence.
When I post Micro pens, please be generous and enjoy the photos of the pen. :)
